Hard rock/classic metal band from Dublin

About Shoctopus

"The drummer Ripper, and Lead Guitarist Stavis, have played together in many bands for the last 6 years. Firstly in Nov 1999 Stavis was asked to get a guitar for christmas to start a band with a school mate- having never had the urge to do so. But it very quickly became his passion in life and spent hours upon hours of time teaching himself how to play. Stavis, after agreeing to get a guiatr for christmas, convinced Ripper to get a drum kit for christmas so he could be in the band too. He also agreed and that was the birth of what is now. Both have been teaching themselves their respective instruments throughout this time. Singer Charlie Black joined the "group" mid 2007, and 2008 was going to be a big year for the band. But the bassist had decided to leave. In April 2008 after 3 months of auditioning for bassists, Ian "Tank" Boylan succeeded in impressing the newly forming band with his skills. Despite having been playing for just about 3 years, Tank is a superbly accomlpished bassist!

6 months passed, with SHOCTOPUS hidden away in a rehearsal room in Dublin, wrinting and rehearsing new material. After opening KnockanStockan Music Festival as their first gig back in July 2008, and a few gigs dotted about Dublin, the band headed into the studio in November 2008 to lay down some tracks. Working with an amazing producer, Sean Genockey, and working in a brilliant studio, AP Studios (Antimo Puca Engineer) proved a perfect match! Their sound had been captured and now it was all systems go!"

We've always found it hard to describe our sound, as I'm sure it is with most bands. It is undeniably rock....hard rock. But it also has flavours of blues, blues rock, classic rock and at times even metal, but more like 70's or 80's metal than contemporary. All of us in the band have wide, varied and differing tastes in music, which makes it all the more enjoyable. Some of what we listen to individually, although not necesaarily influences, are:

Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Bela Fleck and the Flectones, BB King, Beethoven, JS Bach, AC/DC, Metallica, GNR, Iron Maiden, Iron Butterfly, Creedence, UFO, DiamondHead, Robert Johnson, Joe Satriani, Pantera, CoC, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Alice in Chains, Van Halen, Rob Zombie, Muse, Tom Petty, The Beatles, The Travelling Wilbury's, Black Label Society, Porcupine Tree, Marillion..... the list os quite literally endless!!

We just love music...writing music, playing music and performing music and listening to music!! And we'd love the opportunity to play for anyone and everyone!!
