About Toneage
Toneage were formed in Kells circa 1966. Their music set covered R'n'B, Blues and obscure pop. Eamon Carr went on to play in Horslips. Bassist, Gene Mulvaney, was also the original bass player with Horslips at their conception, but he never made it to thier first public appearce. John Olohan on piano went on to be an Abbey actor. Pat Dunne (from Trim) who was Olohan's cousin deputised for lead guitarist Joe Rourke on a few occcasions, Dunne later became an RTE radio producer.
Carr, after leaving Toneage, formed Tara Telephone, a poetry group, he also played wash-board with a Dublin jug band called Empire State Express, before becoming one of the founder members of Horslips. Olohan and Dunne along with the 3 Sherry sisters (also from Trim) formed Rite of Spring, a folk group.
Toneage appeared at Headford Golf Club and "The * Vincent's" Hall, in Kells, the C.Y.M.S. Hall and the Rugby Club in Navan, and at The Scene Club in Dublin. Eamon Carr and John Olohan had both just finshed school and Gene Mulvaney and Joe Rourke who were slightly older both worked locally. They were building a nice local reputation playing at the above venues, and as such were semi - pro, but the ambition of some members to turn professional was pobably what broke up the group.
They did some recordings in the home studio of local Kells dee-jay/business man Colum Fitzsimons. But as he has since died nobody is aware of whatever happened to the tapes.
