Yeah I've seen Delorentos five times now... I saw them play in the Olimpia last Sunday... they are amazing! They have to be one of the best bands in Ireland now! They are my favourite band at the moment.

Three great bands to check are Corks Charlie Don't Surf (-they've still not released an album yet but their tracks on their MySpace page were originaly recorded in 2005 as one continuous jam before being edited for their profile) their site url is  http://www.myspace.com/charliedontsurfcork
and also Waterfords top two bands Primrose - the band that stole half of Simply Red for their debut album (which probably explains why Mick Hucknal is advertised as playing on his own at that festival with Barry McCabe) and a host of other professionals while still being an indie act .. there at http://www.myspace.com/theprimrosepath
and finaly The Deaf Animal Orchestra ( we gave them an 'originality award' for their impending debut album and image, lyrics etc..) on http://www.myspace.com/deafanimalorchestra Wink
There's a handfull of some different yet cracking bands!

Charlie Don't Surf sound good, but that second one, Primrose I think it was, sound really deadly!!! Im just listening to The Deaf Animal Orchestra now and they're sounding great too!

I'll put some links up to some other irish bands that have been giging around the country later.

One of the bands I'm really taken with at the moment and am listening to all the time is Mellow Drops (you might have noticed already Wink). To describe them in terms of other bands (I know that can sometimes be damming to a band but it might give you an idea of what they sound like) they sound something like a cross between The Frames, Pink Floyd and My Bloody Valentine.

Here's a couple of links to the irish bands that I'm into at the moment...

http://www.myspace.com/theblizzards
The Blizzards... they are just brilliant live and their new album should be finished soon. You should have a listen to their first album... it's addictive!! They were nominated for two Meteor Awards and theywon one of them... best live band I think.

http://www.myspace.com/delorentos
Delorentos... the absolute best band ever to come from Dublin! They are amazing live! They were nominated for two Meteor Awards and a Choice Music Award... but they didn't win... but they should have!

http://www.myspace.com/coronaband
The Coronas... these guys are also pretty amazing live! I think they are the best known band at the moment out of all these links I'm putting up.... their album is deadly though. They were also nominated for a Meteor Award or two... but they didn't win.

http://www.myspace.com/kinetiks1
The Kinetiks... I think they are great! Have a listen to Bite the Bullet... its class! And Shuffle Your Feet is pretty cool too! They were in the Vodafone Bright New Sounds Competition... but I'm not sure how they got on.

http://www.myspace.com/kharma45
Kharma 45... I found out about these guys through an article in Hot Prerss about music in Northern Ireland... their songs are brilliant... especially Ecstacy... its great!

http://www.myspace.com/paulhouricansoloartist
Paul Hourican... he's really good... he just released his first album a couple of weeks ago... have a listen to Happy Aniversary... its deadly!

http://www.myspace.com/scubadice
Scuba Dice... they got to like the last three or something of You're a Star... I think their best song is Made.

http://www.myspace.com/travega
Travega... this band released their single Bullrun a while back and it's well worth listening to... they also have a really amazing song called Blink, ,which was recorded for Balcony Tv.

I think thats enough for now, but those bands are well worth listening to.

here's another handfull of new Irish talent to look out for...
First up is a lively Dublin three piece all girl band that will knock the likes of the bangles for six.. 'Don't listen to me' 'We got fire' and 'Yes sir' are the brilliant trio of tracks on their MySpace that led them into the final twenty of the 'Bright new sounds' competition (the minutes won this years competition). The girls url is http://www.myspace.com/theblondemajority

Next up is another girl (this time from Cork) called Christine Deady, her first track on her my space is called 'fumbling' - and unfortunately it does, wether it was deliberately fumbled or not I don't know but her other tracks have some real gems lyricaly, musicaly and vocaly. She is also one of the top twenty finalists of 'Bright new sounds' and her url is  http://www.myspace.com/christinedeady
But Christine also has two brothers with equal talents ,one of which is the 'beatboxing' Brian (check out his 'Gold Spot' and 'The Heart Melts' tracks) at  http://www.myspace.com/briandeadyfutureretro  - her other brother, Colin, plays a mean Steely Dan styled upbeat rock and plays all the instruments himself at http://www.myspace.com/colindeady - just imagine what they could pull off if they put their sounds together in a professional studio...So long the 'beautiful Corrs' helloo  'the deadly Deady's!' None of the above are on the artist data base yet as they've not released any albums or singles yet...but they're all names to listen out for in the coming months

Thanks for those links Martin...
The Blonde Majority sound really good...
I'll be listening out for them now...
Do you know if they have an album or anything out yet?!

I'll put some more links to band pages up later on too.

RE - SHIV any albums or CDs yet ?  unfortunately no albums from any of them yet but I'd be surprised if they don't release something by the end of the year.
Apparently Brian Deady's 'Gold Spot' track ended up on a compilation album somewhere and recieved alot of airplay, and Christine recently had her own little 'gold spot' on Balcony TV.
As for the blonde majority - I can't see them lasting to the end of the month without a few herds of labels trying to sign them up!
...now where did I put those contracts?...

Two more Irish indie bands from the lands of the Deise tip toeing there way to increasing success are Waterfords 'Gorbachov' at:
http://www.myspace.com/gorbachov    - who are this years finalists in the Murphy's Live 2008 competition (the final takes place at The  Savoy Cork on May 15th - and Murphy's have laid on two free buses to take fans to the gig and back from Waterford).
Next up is Waterfords 'Ilya K' who have landed themselves a spot at this years Glastonbury festival...Ilya K's music seems to be doing to Festival orientated Space Rock (such as early Floyd ,Hawkwind, Gong and Frank Zappa)what Horslips did to Traditional Music -  in the sense that they're re-inventing and updating it to make it their own. It takes a couple of listens to ease the brain into their unique style of intense melodic madness but Glass Eye and Empire Is A Cave are tracks that stand out...and considering the recent commercialisation of Glastonbury landing a spot there as an indie festival band is quite an achievment for 2008...Their MySpace is
            http://www.myspace.com/ilyaktheband
and their Glass Eye video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3v6-QJsCUw
   more soon... Mairtin

Gorbachov... I was actually listening to them yesterday... their song "Go On My Son" is on the Murphy's Live 2008 cd that came free with Hot Press this month... it's very good... and so are Ilya K... their song "The Pink Blood" is also on the cd...
The other semi-finalists of Murphy's Live are also really deadly...
Bravado: http://www.myspace.com/bravadoindie
Stagger Lee: http://www.myspace.com/staggerleeband
Walter Mitty and the Realists: http://www.myspace.com/waltermittyandtherealists
This months Hot Press is well worth getting just for that cd, it has some really great songs by Fight Like Apes: http://www.myspace.com/fightlikeapesmusic , The Flaws: http://www.myspace.com/theflawsmusic , The Frank and Walters, Ham Sandwich: http://www.myspace.com/eathamsandwich , Giveamanakick: http://www.myspace.com/giveamanakick , Fred: http://www.myspace.com/fredtheband , Future Kings of Spain: http://www.myspace.com/futurekingsofspain .

Unfortunately I live in a poor musicaly depraved village in the UK that only has one pub and one newsagent whose staff are so poorly educated that they can't even spell such huge words like 'Hot' or 'Press'...come to think of it, the last magazine I ever bought was 'Kerrang' in 1982 - I think Berne Torme was on the cover...thank God for the internet is all I can say..
Apparently the 2008 winner gets £10,000 to do with as they please..but the chances are that if someone from the winning band says 'the drinks are on the house!' they could end up out of pocket after one round of drinks...maybe Murphys are banking on it  Wink It sounds like a cd worth having so maybe I should explain what an order form is to the village newsagents...or do Hot Press  have a website now?

http://www.hotpress.com/

That's the Hot Press website. I think you need to subscribe to be able to see most of the things on it though... around 60 euro or something... it's got an article about Murphy's Live in every issiue, so I've been keeping up to date with that.
