Need help identifying a song in an ad, with VERY little info!

Here's one for all of you music problem solvers out there!
I'm sorry that I can't provide more details, but I'm hoping someone will recognise what I'm talking about!

There was a song played on an Irish TV commercial recently
I can't for the life of me remember what the ad was for though!
It's currently being featured in another ad, but again I don't know what that ad is for either!

It's quite a slow song, it sounds very forlorn & reminds me of early 90's US alternative rock.
There's a single female vocalist, accompanied by a single instrument.
As far as I can remember, the band itself was active around 1994, give or take a couple years.
I have a feeling the band had a one word name, possibly beginning with S.
Or it may have been, "The" something.

I know this is a long shot, but with all of the Irish music buffs here, I'm really hoping someone can help me out!
