This unique 4-day tribute Festival takes place in the Town where Ireland's greatest Rock Blues Guitarist - Rory Gallagher was born 60 years ago - Ballyshannon, Co.Donegal in the North West of Ireland. Its the 7th consecutive year for the event to take place in Ballyshannon following on from the success of recent years with thousands of Rory Gallagher's fans from all over the World making this now the Annual Pilgrimage to honour Rory in his birthplace of Ballyshannon.

The Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival 2008 begins on Thursday 29th May and continues through until Sunday 1st June 2008. We are delighted that this year the "JULIAN SAS BAND" will be the main headline act on the Saturday Night at Rory Gallagher Theatre, with "SINNERBOY" (Manchester) completing this the only all-ticket show, that is sure to sell-out in advance.

Some 32 performing acts will appear at the Rory Gallagher Festival coming from Germany, Holland , Italy , USA , UK and Ireland . Making a welcomed return are leading performers “SINNERBOY” led by Barry Barnes from Manchester, “Defender” from Scotland, “Rikirock” from Italy, “The Loop” from Germany, “Dave McHugh Band” from Dublin, “Remember Rory” (Germany), legendary local Rockers “Boxtie” and Johnny Gallagher, "Moonchild" (Donegal) and making a return from Devon, England are “SHINKICKER” a band that are a must-see to believed featuring the electrifying Guitarist ~ Chris Stuckey. A person who shared the stage on occasion with Rory was Fermanagh-man Pat McManus, a former member of “Mama’s Boy’s” and the PAT McMANUS BAND will be playing amongst many of the Open Air Concerts that will take place in Ballyshannon at the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival 2008.

Two of Sligo’s favourite sons will also be rocking the streets of Ballyshannon with SEAMIE O’DOWD and his band, requiring no introduction to festival-goers. Seamie’s passion and awesome rawness is refreshing for many Rory fans. Making his first appearance at the 2008 Tribute is another Sligo-man, Tabby Callaghan who exploded onto the TV Screens of millions of viewers in the UK and Ireland in 2004 when he made the Final of the ITV Programme X-Factor. Tabby will be the first to admit the influence that Rory Gallagher has had on his music.

Making her first appearance this year will be the highly acclaimed “Mirenda Rosenburg” a powerhouse singer from Washington DC. Mirenda Rosenberg and her band will entertain the Ballyshannon audience with her exciting repertoire of jazz, blues funk and soul music. Each year the Tribute Festival organisers strive to link many connections with Rory Gallagher and making a welcomed return is Eamon McCormack Band, one of the last musicians to record with the G-man. Eamon McCormack has recently released his superb new Album entitled “Kindred Spirits".

On the Blues front appearing at the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival 2008 will be the exquisite English Blues Guitarist – Peter Price, while the young and emerging talent is an aspect of Music that Rory always recognised and Donegal Rock 3-Piece “Moonchild” who have been making quite an impact in recent months will perform as will “Slumming Angels” from Kildare, “The Deans” from Galway, “The Skin’s” and many others at Show case events over the 4 days.

When in Ballyshannon, you can visit the Rock Hospital where Rory was born on March 2nd 1948, view the Rory Gallagher Hall of Fame Exhibition at Owen Roe’s Bar in the Street where Rory first resided and while at the Festival you will have no choice but experience Ballyshannon’s friendly hospitality, historic sites such as the Mill Wheel and a visit to Rossnowlagh is recommended.
