At the moment I'm listening to a young irish band called Nightbox. They won the All-Ireland Blast Beat Finals and the World Blast Beat Finals last year. Their songs are well worth having a listen to. This is a link to  their myspace page:

I think Atria is their best song up, but Girls Like Mandy and Spend The Night are  also pretty class.

I want to see Bell X1... they are meant to be amazing live... I'm learning to play their songs on the guitar now  Tongue... I dont think they're giging in Ireland until they've released a new album.

Saw The Bellies last Friday.  My review is up at www.pwradio.net in the "news" on the left!  They were a treat, to say the least!

Hey Shiv, I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure the Bellies are playing this years OXEGEN festival in July  Grin- I placed the url up for the festival on the 'new bands crowned at Naas Na Ri' post in the promos section...any ideas on the other four finalists are battling  the Kill City Defectors on the 5th anyone..? Huh
...and please dont say Jean Michael Jarre Angry
Re BellX1,  rumour is they are playing a few gigs on home turf this time round Wink

Well, I'm listening to Snowy White these days - because I had the pleasure of playing with him in Italy last weekend. I knew he was big into Peter Green and Snowy has that same tone and fluid style. It's a real classy player - if you like blues! www.snowywhite.com

Snowy's a classy player even if you hate the blues Cheesy I remember him in his Thin Lizzy days...though I never knew he was english.
He just gently glides round that frett board so effortlessly and yet still manages to coax the most awesome sounds out of each contact..watch the video of him playing Black Magic Woman on the links page of his site Cool Cool Cool
I expect (apart from his Thin Lizzy days) most people will remember his historical moment playing 'Comfortably Numb' on top of the crumbling Berlin Wall with Roger Waters in the 90's. Snowy only plays with the 'greats' Barry!! You lucky fellah! Wink

I know, I know - I'm still pinching myself!!!!

I don't want to sound like a real 'name dropper' here but actually right after my gig Snowy was flying out to St. Petersburg to do a one-off gig (of the Wall) with Roger. Seemingly the government over there is willing to pay for the whole shebang! I wonder if we could get Brian Cowen interested in the idea!! Tongue

Snowy freely admits that he wasn't the most suitable guitarist for Lizzy. On the other hand if you listen back to the albums he was on there is some really good songs and playing on them. I reckon Philo was well ahead of his time (and was never a narrow-minded hard rocker - like some of the Lizzy fans were).

I am currently listening to Davy Spillane, Atlantic Bridge...

I noticed not many people bothered voting for the next Juke Box song... has everyone been abducted by aliens ?

What are you currently listening to...

Last night I indulged in the full Return of the Dancehall Sweethearts, back to back

@Mairtin, are we all alone in the world then ?

That's a great album (Atlantic Bridge) - produced and put together by my good friend PJ Curtis. Davy's the man, isn't he?

Barry's still here scaring and shaming the 'Snowy sceptics' away nats. Irishrockers is after all supposed to be the home of Irish music Gods just as much as their fans who are too in awe to speak in such a 'holy' place! Lips sealed
But Barry, PJ is quite a clever chap all round..a master of all trades and jack of none...I'm sure his lectures would fascinate Laura Lee too -especially the one on Irish traditional being the source and root of Bluegrass and american folk and country... If he mixed your last album he should be in line for yet another award anytime soon. He also mixed/ produced a few for Rory too. We walk a priveledged path Barry Cool Cool Cool
much respect

Yes, as Nathalie points out, we've had a very low voter turnout at the polls Undecided and have don't have enough votes to delcare a winner so if you haven't voted yet, have a wee listen and submit your vote now

I've spent most of the day listening to Irelands answer to 'Enigma' in the form of Corks 'Skully' - it's not rock and has it's roots in dance/lounge/and trance with a touch of classical but it's all pretty impressive. Skully was the brains behind the Ireland world cup tune with the Dearg Doom riff - and he's recently been following the Horslips master plan by taking traditional songs and tunes and giving them his own special treatment...other Horslips tunes to get the Skully touch are 'King of the Fairies' and 'Trouble with a capitol T'.
He's also worked with and been an inspiration to many international artists (including Madonna) in recent years ...pretty cool for an 'indie artist'. His current projects are...
  http://www.myspace.com/skullymusic   (solo project)
http://www.myspace.com/musicstill       (soul ballads with Esther Canata)
http://www.myspace.com/mettise          (with Aida - superb african vocalist)
http://www.myspace.com/irishskully       (reworked folk songs with a brilliant version of 'Scarborough Fair' with vocals by Annette Buckley)

Another Corkonian with a real gift in composition is Moses Malone...he's yet to do his leaving cert but he's already been composing some intricate tunes to match and outdo many long standing pro's (Suck On This has a strong Mike Oldfield feel and flavour- only much better and Moses plays all instruments). A genuine upcoming musical genius - with some seriously meaty musical influences for someone so young..is at
http://www.myspace.com/mosesmalonemusic
That should keep yer lug holes nicely filled to overflowing...

Guess what I am listening to ?  Well after writing my last review on the other topic, I went and put Simple Kid on.  I've only listened to it 3-4 times in total....

What are you listening to ?  (Look it's almost my bedtime already)

Man you're cracking me up laughing. Did you deliberately omit the very obsure version of King of the Fairies...Ahh I got you, you wanted to test me, you thought, let's not tell MadNats then I'll know if she goes looking at the bands profiles.  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin.  So now put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Well another weird one...anyway....  Roll Eyes
