I got a friend request today (on MySpace) from a young lady with a very clever plan for breaking and (vocaly)barging her way right into the middle of the 'mainstream' music industry. Instead of repeatedly nagging the major labels or putting a begging bowl out on her websites she is offering 'shares' in her new album and career. A minimum of £5 get's you a copy of the album and a say in it's content and production etc..as well as a chance to make some cash back. Her voice is quite a powerehouse too so it's definately worth taking a 'risk' on.
The only catch is that she's English and not Irish Cry
This very shrewd lady (soon to be a tycoon) is called Laura Warwick and there's more on her 'Public Record Label share offer on her MySpace here:

         http://www.myspace.com/laurawarwick

We probably would'nt recomend her approach for just any artist... but she definately has a big enough vocal presance to make a very, very, big impact...
oooh , I can feel a 'musical innovation of the year' award page coming on for the 22! Cheesy                        Lots of 'clever' love to all

Just had a glimpse...I think it's a great idea that public label project thing... Good luck to her I say.  She sounds quite good too, although not my type of music particularly....She needs to add more tracks though....

I never knew bands asked for donations I must say....

It's an interesting approach, fair play to her for attempting to do it on her own.  There is already a website set up around this concept - http://www.sellaband.com - that I came accross some time ago. The artist needs to get 5000 'believers' buying a share at US$10 each to raise the cash to produce an album. The nice thing is you can get your money back if the artist doesn't get to the point where they can produce an album.

I just went to check up on Layra Warwick again today and appears that she's had her profile deleted...so maybe her innovative idea was deemed to be sailing a bit close to the boundaries of the Spam act? A shame realy as she has a great voice...So if anyone wants to follow her (now deleted)example maybe the best way may be to open an official non-MySpace site first to deal solely with the buisness ends of your career and then just use a myspace profile purely to showcase your music...If your good enough (as Laura clearly is)then people will look you up and get involved..unfortunately for Laura I didn't get round to making a note of any other contact details...Doh!
But I'm sure she'll turn up somewhere soon if she's the bona fide star we think she is...Maybe Simon Cowell reported her so he could have her all to himself!!
           Love to all

Further update on the trials and tribulation of Laura Warwick
episode 2...

Actualy they did try to delete her profile for 'suspicious activities'...apparently someone had tried to hack her MySpace account for some dodgy dealings...thankfully the MySpace team quickly sorted it out and tracked the dodgy dealer down.  So all is well with Laura's private record label

But there's more good news too...and guess what !!
Laura is actualy legaly elligable to play in the Irish Football team AND claim an Irish Passport... Grin
Yup! Though born in the UK her mother is actualy IRISH so I guess that makes her geneticaly elligable to be an IrishRocker too...

Her first acoustic gig is on 3rd July at the Cavendish Arms 128 Huntington Rd London for any IrishRockers in the area in July!

Another notable genetically Irish rooted rocker is also Ged Flood (born in Eire but dragged through a hedge backwards in the UK) who recently released an online recording venture with ex- uk Hoopla Baby frontliner Jo Greenwood. Their debut ep was released earlier this year and reached 22 in the download chart ..Their online band is called Jo And The Flood at http://www.myspace.com/joandtheflood
I have a strong theory on the roots of Celtic musical creativity which I shared with Ged last year ...after I've cooked dinner I'll see if I can get round to paraphrasing it..
                             Even more love to all

It is true, there used to be a lot of buskers in  Switzerland but that was a long time ago, they clamped down on tram musicians ages ago.  Funny enough a friend of mine, from 20 years ago, who I've lost touch with, came to Switzerland as a busker or he would play at street festivals etc...a very good musician he is/was too.

As I am typing this, Frank is on the floor pulling his hair out with  his new computer, you should see him  Huh Huh Huh Huh  He can't connect to our WIFI so  he reckons his computer is useless if you can't connect... well yeah why not state the obvious, so I said ohh you can always use Word or Excel....  Grin Grin

I always give to musicians I must say, and the better looking the more they get  Cheesy Cheesy Wink Wink.

I didn't see that guy on Grafton Street last time, maybe he'll be back this week end....well probably not....  But you're not a busker Mairtin are you ?  Are you just pulling my leg....??
