Simple Kid 2, was the last in the series of the new music CD's I got in the last few weeks and you already know how pleased I was with all  my other acquisitions.

Simple Kid was yet another brilliant choice, again thanks to the Jukebox here.  I must say his music is very unique in its "genre". I could easily put Voodoo Loons, Mellow Drops and many more in the same basket (and those 2 are my top favourites in "new" music), but what Simple Kid does is really HIS OWN stuff, no sounds like.  I don't recognise sounds or influences reminding me of other bands, I could compare this with, the way I could more easily for example with the other bands already mentioned.

When you get his album, you get a little piece of paper with it with a password to download 3 further free tracks.  One of which being a live version of both "Seretonin" (my favourite song by a long shot) and "lil' King Kong" as well as a very unusual version of Sgt. Peppers (Beatles).

The album also comes with a nice little lyrics booklet.

He's actually working on his 3rd album now, so no gigging in the near future it seems... Did you notice how I am way up on the news and his doings  Wink. I posted a little comment on his MySpace too, which he posted straight away this time  Wink Roll Eyes

Hey, by the way Mairtin, you don't half recommend us some weird music you do  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy... sorry.....arghh you can always pop into the chat room on Sunday and slag me off....

Again guys and gals, please vote for a new Jukebox song, else Aidan will chose MY SONG by default !!!!  Won't you Aidan ?!

I went into Google to look for Serotonin and found a x page long essay on Wikipedia.  Nothing meant anything to me until I saw that it could be contained in some mushrooms, I thought nudge nudge wink wink, say no more, say no more.... Then I scrolled down to the bit I could actually understand:

Serotonergic drugs

Several classes of drugs target the 5-HT system including some antidepressants, antipsychotics, anxiolytics, antiemetics, and antimigraine drugs as well as the psychedelic drugs and empathogens.

Cry

Grin  If you want wierd then try this chap
http://www.myspace.com/billythebrand
A friend of his (I think called 'joobs?) posted a hillarious comment on his page last year describing 'DIE EYE WHY' as sounding disturbingly like a young girl being mollested by two Kerry tinkers...yet strangely enjotable.
Shane O'Leary pointed him out to me last year and I thought it was a joke at first - especialy when I saw he was from Kerry!
I'll listen to anything once! funnily enough ,I started to find it strangely enjoyable too Tongue  Yet despite being guilty of taking the mick and occaisionaly mollesting peoples ears he actualy  had some very clever and inventive ideas on viral music (in his blogs) ...very similar to how the Ozrics spread their music in their very early days.
If that ones not weird enough I could always upload Gong squeezing sponges over policemens heads or their 'percussive' moments that seemed to involve alot of slapping noises and 'yelps Tongue Tongue Wink

Nice review Nats, SK is a stand out artist in my book.
... but what Simple Kid does is really HIS OWN stuff, no sounds like.  I don't recognise sounds or influences reminding me of other bands, I could compare this with...

For me his music does remind me a bit of other some artists e.g. Old Domestic Cat reminds me of early Neil Young, The TwentySomething sounds like it has a bit of a Led Zep influence and a few other tracks have a bit of Beck type vibe to them.

I didn't get the extra tracks cause I got the album digitally from emusic. Wouldn't mind checking out his Sgt. Peppers version. If you get a chance sometime maybe you could upload them to the ftp site...
