A small piece about the Irish Rockers website was published in the 8th May 2008 Edition of Ireland's biggest selling music magazine, Hot Press.
The article states:
"Started in 2003 by Irish web designer and music fan, Aidan Curran, as a database of the most notable Irish bands, both past and present, the site aims to be the 'ultimate online resource and referance' for Irish bands and artists.
It also has some interesting promotional opportunities for upcoming artists, including a gig guide, artist news section and a forum. If you are an artist that is not included in their list, you may want to request to be included."

Apologies to all site visitors who have been turned away recently due to us surpassing the daily bandwidth limit allocated to the
site. The good news that we can take from this is that it's a sign that the site is getting more popular. In the run up to
St. Patrick's day the quest for all things Irish is also adding to the traffic. We are currently taking measures to remedy the
situation - in the short run reducing page and image sizes (which will also make the site faster to load) and looking into
alternative hosting solutions for the long term. Please bear with us and we hope to have this situation resolved soon.

The keen-eyed regular visitor may notice that the site has undergone a minor cosmetic face-lift.
Actually the most significant work has been done below the surface to move the site towards more standards compliant XHTML code
as well as tweaks to the database code to improve efficiency of database interactions.

Last year Jens Holtappels, a German student, contacted our forum looking for suggestions for an essay he had to write on an Irish band which
describes / criticizes irish society in their music. I suggested Stiff Little Fingers as the subject of his essay since they had a lot of songs
which dealt with life in Northern Ireland during the troubles. They wrote songs condemming the violence of both the police and the
paramilitaries. Their first album 'Inflamable Material' in particular is full of these songs - e.g. Suspect Device is a term we heard on
the news almost everyday, Wasted Life is an anti-paramilitary song, Barbed Wire Love is about love between 2 people from opposite sides
of political divide, White Noise is about racism of the British towards the Irish, Alternative Ulster is about their longing for a
change in the troubled place where they live. Six months later Jens posted his essay in the forum and as it turned out the subject band that
he chose was Stiff Little Fingers. I have made his essay available here on IrishRockers.com - click here to check it out,
it's a very interesting read! Stiff Little Fingers is our current spotlighted band.

An important new feature has been added to the site - now visitors of the site may submit artists for inclusion on the site.
To access this feature, go to the 'Irish Rock Artists' link and scroll to the bottom of the page.
To be added to the list the artist should generally be a signed artist with album releases who fits into the broad 'rock' category.

Welcome to the newly launched IrishRockers.com!
I had started on it a few years ago but left it uncompleted, basically all that existed here was a placer holder page.
I even had secured the domain name 'irishrockers.com' but had let the registration expire.
This weekend I finally got around to building the site up to a presentable state and reclaimed the domain name.
The cool thing is that now visitors to the site can help it grow by adding comments and information about their favorite artists.
So please help get the ball rolling. Hope you enjoy the site,
