Director were an art rock quartet from Malahide, Co. Dublin formed in 2005. Their 2006 debut album, We Thrive on Big Cities, was a critical and commercial success in Ireland, reaching Number 2 on the Irish charts, achieving Platinum status, and spending 29 weeks in the charts. The album's singles, including "Reconnect," were well-received, leading to sold-out shows and support slots with notable UK bands. The album was nominated for the Choice Music Prize 2006 Album of the Year.
Director won Best New Band in the 2007 Meteor Awards.
The band's second album, I'll Wait for Sound, released in May 2009, featured a harder sound and included tracks like "Play Pretend" and "Sing It Without a Tune." This album was recorded with US producer Brad Wood and marked a more intense direction for the band. Despite its innovative approach and successful national tour, Director eventually split from Atlantic Records due to limited international success.
