About Eire Apparent

Eire Apparent were a band noted for launching the careers of Henry McCullough and Ernie Graham, and for having Jimi Hendrix play on, and produce, their only album. The band evolved from earlier Belfast bands, Tony and The Telstars in the early 60s and The People in mid-60s. In 1967, the band members moved to London and were signed by Chas Chandler and Mike Jeffery, who changed the band's name to 'Eire Apparent'. They toured America in 1968 with The Animals. Henry McCullough had to be replaced by Mike Cox after McCullough got deported for possession of marijuana. Back in Ireland, he joined Sweeney's Men. The group continued touring North America with the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Soft Machine. While in The States, they recorded the album Sunrise. It was produced by Jimi Hendrix and he also played on some tracks. The band toured Europe with Hendrix and in April 1969. They started work on a second album in May 1969 but in never saw the light of day and the band broke up the following year.

Well I am sure this is a great bit of trivia but I am very fortunate to be the godmother of Cailin Graham who's father Jack Graham was the brother of Ernie Graham. She is very musical also and listens to Sunset often

I saw the Eire Apparent supporting Hendrix in Glasgow in 1967. I would welcome any information about the band as I want to post comments on the Apollo Memories website. Can anyone help? Anne
