Glyder, from Ballyknockan, Co. Wicklow, are a retro hard rocking band following in the footsteps of their heroes Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher, Hendrix, Zeppelin and Classic rock of yesteryear as well as contemporaries such as The Darkness, The Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stoneage, and System of a Down. Playing together for a number of years, the band where launched onto the scene in 2004 after a one off gig at 'The Vibe for Philo' in Dublin. In 2006 they released their self-titled debut album which was recorded in London with producer Chris Tsangarides who has produced Thin Lizzy and Gary Moore in the past. The band also supported the reformed version of Thin Lizzy on their Irish tour.
The band gained further recognition through performances with acts like W.A.S.P. and Dio, and they opened for Metallica in 2009. Their third album, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, was released in March 2010. The band was briefly on hold after singer/bassist Tony Cullen and Drummer Davy Ryan quit. They reformed in 2011 with new members Jackie Robinson, Graham McClatchie and Des McEvoy and began working on their fourth album, Backroads to Byzantium, which was recorded in Bluebird Studios and and released in October 2011. The group disbanded shortly after.
