About Henry McCullough

Henry McCullough got his start in the Irish showband scene in the early 60s as the teenage lead guitarist with the Skyrockets showband from Enniskillen. In 1967, McCullough moved to Belfast helped form the psychedelic band the People which later moved to London and were signed by Chas Chandler's management team and changed their name to Eire Apparent. Hen then joined folk group Sweeney's Men after being deported from America while he was on tour with Eire Apparent. In 1969 he moved on to Joe Cocker's Grease Band and performed at the Woodstock Festival. In the 70's he was a member of a number of bands including Spooky Tooth, Wings and the Frankie Miller Band as well as being an in-demand session musician. In the 80s he moved back to Ireland and spent some time in Dublin sitting in with The Fleadh Cowboys before moving back to his home-town, Portstewart and forming a band of his own. After that he continued to tour with his band and record and perform and release solo material as well as collaborate with other musicians. McCullough had a heart attack in 2012 which left him in critical condition. He died on 14 June 2016.
