About The Tearjerkers

The singer, Paul Maxwell, of The Tearjerkers was previously in the band Speed who put out the very first Northern Irish punk record. The Tearjerkers released their debut single 'Love Affair' on Terry Hooley's Good Vibrations record label in 1979. They signed to Phonogram shortly after and released the single Murder Mystery in 1980. Further singles and an LP were announced but never came to pass.

They supported Thin Lizzy on their Irish tour in 1980. Later in 1980 the band split in two with a new band Etc. Etc. being formed by Paul Maxwell and guitarist Paul McIlwaine while The Tearjerkers carried on with a new singer for a short time before splitting for good.
