Glen Hansard from Ballymun, Dublin, is the Academy Award–winning principal songwriter and vocalist/guitarist of The Frames and one half of folk rock duo, The Swell Season as well as a solo artist.
Glen released his first solo album, Rhythm and Repose, in 2012
He is also known for his acting, having appeared in the BAFTA winning film The Commitments, as well as starring in the film Once. His song, "Falling Slowly", from Once, co-written with his co-star Markéta Irglová, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2007, and earned him ten other major awards or nominations between 2007-08.
In 2015, Hansard released It Was Triumph We Once Proposed: Songs of Jason Molina, an EP in which Hansard presented reworked interpretations of five songs by his late friend Molina, best known for his work with Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co.
His 2015 second album Didn't He Ramble was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Folk Album. Hansard's third full-length album, Between Two Shores was released in 2018. He staged an international concert tour in support of the album, including a special show with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. 2019's This Wild Willing was written during a four-week working vacation in Paris and recorded with a diverse range of collaborators. His fifth studio album, All That Was East Is West of Me Now, came in 2023.
