Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero started their musical careers in Mexico City playing in trash metal bands and teaching Metallica licks to local kids. Gabriela joined Rodrigo's band, Tierra Acida, which put out an album and managed to get a record deal but they decided not to persue it because they did not see a future in it. Instead the pair focused on honeing their guitar skills and they decided to travel to Europe and try to see if they could live off playing music there. They landed in Dublin and started out busking on the streets but soon built a bit of a reputation and started landing some small gigs. Their first gig was actually a First Communion party in Bray. After a detour to Denmark and Barcelona they got their big break in 2003 when former busking friend, Damien Rice, invited them to support his shows.
In 2003 they released the album "Re-Foc" followed by "Live Manchester and Dublin" in 2004. Their big commercial breakthrough came with their self-titled 2006 release produced by the acclaimed producer, John Leckie, who has produced for the likes of Stone Roses, The Verve, Radiohead and Muse. The album went to number one in Ireland. The duo generated an international buzz and tours and TV appearences in the United States and Europe followed. Due to their impressive live performances, the pair have become a major concert and festival draw worldwide.
