About Jack Lukeman
Jack Lukeman, born Seán Loughman, is an accomplished singer, songwriter and musician. He grew up in Bennetsbridge, near Athy, Co. Kildare, and began his music career at age 18, busking across Europe. He travelled to Germany with the band Serious Women where he first met the members of The Black Romantics his early backing band. He first gained recognition in 1995 with The Black Romantics, whose performances in Dublin included his own songs and covers of Jacques Brel. He recorded the album Wax with The Black Romantics in 1995 before the band split in 1997.
Lukeman then established himself as a solo artist and songwriter. His solo career took off with the 1999 album Metropolis Blue, featuring hits like "Rooftop Lullabye." The album was well received and went on to be a multi-platinum selling album. He followed it up by touring extensively in the US and Europe.
Lukeman followed this success with several albums, including Universe (2001), Broken Songs (2005), Burn On (2006), Open Your Borders (2015), Magic Days (2016) and Echo On (2022). He has collaborated with various artists and orchestras, including the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and his music often blends theatrical elements, earning critical acclaim. In addition to his music, Lukeman has hosted radio shows and written a collaborative book inspired by his songs.
Lukeman has performed over the years supporting or alongside many major artists including U2, Nick Cave, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Ronnie Wood, John Lee Hooker, Elvis Costello, Jools Holland, and Marianne Faithfull, and has appeared at venues such as Olympia Paris, Royal Albert Hall in London, and The Lincoln Center in NYC.
