About David Virgin

David Virgin was born in Northside of Dublin in 1962. He moved to Australlia when he was young. By the age of 16, with his band "The Broken Toys", he was playing at the legendary Grand Hotel and Garabaldis in the early Sydney punk scene '78 - '79. He then started working with Dan Rumour (later of the Cruel Sea), in the industrial noise band SPK. He recorded 3 singles and an album still only 16 years old.

Around the same time, Virgin & Rumour started the post punk psychadelic group Sekret Sekret in which they achieved 5 No1 positions in the Australian Independent charts. Sekret Sekret lasted 7 years and were the major influence for such bands as the Triffids, The Go - Betweens and the Church. Sekret Sekret later became The Cruel Sea getting Tex Perkins on vocals.

In 1984, David Virgin put out his first soloo release, a split single with Leonard Samperi titled "Possession/Give It Up". In 1991, Virgin reunited with SPK and Dan Rumour to record the solo album Landlord Green, and they toured Europe in 1992. Since then, Virgin has released seven more solo albums and collaborated with Dan Rumour on a 2004 album. He has performed with notable artists like Nick Cave and Billy Bragg.

In 2009, Virgin appeared on the cover of Punk Globe and was interviewed by Joe Dallesandro. Virgin continues to perform and record, now based in Dublin and working with his sons in the band David Virgin & The Stanley Knife Brothers.

In 2013, he released a best-of album, Three Decades of David Virgin, followed by the solo album Boots 'N' Tooths in 2014. His 2017 album, The Beautiful Album, features duets and was supported by his sons and other musicians.

As of 2024, Virgin remains active in music production at Beardfire Production Studio in Dublin. The studio has produced works for various artists and won accolades, including the Best International Short Documentary award for Portrait of the Milliner. Beardfire also co-produced Ailsha's song "Go Tobann," which placed second in the 2024 Irish Eurosong selection process.
