80s new wave/rock/pop band from Cork city

About Idol Joy

Idol Joy were a new wave/rock/pop band from Cork city on the national scene from late '85 to early '88. They had radio success with the song Paradise Days from comet 2 LP and gained a top 5 chart fav on 2fm Dave Fanning's hit list. They recorded a session for Dave Fanning's show in 1987.The band also reached Hotpress band of 86. Could have been more successful if they had the right guidance.

Idol Joy were formed in October 1985 they made their live debut in Cork Opera House in February 1986. They recorded a demo in Elm Tree Studios in Cork featuring tracks ‘JFK’ and ‘Eli’.

Idol Joy split in 1988 and following this, three of the members, Joe Cherry, John McGuire and Fionn Blake formed another band called The Pakt.

Great band from the cork scene in the 80s.Like early Spandau. One of the bast from Cork at this period.

Idol joy (We) are looking for any visual VCR recordings of Us. We know that the Hot Press semi final of 1986/87 was recorded at Sir Henrys Cork and the Carlsberg national battle of the bands final 1986/87 at the Arklow Bay Hotel.??jmsimplyjohn@gmail.com

Idol Joy were possibly the biggest band in Munster at their time.....John McGuire was and still is a rock icon and plays every weekend around Cork City and county having been recently fronted irelands only simple minds tribute band.

I was the bass player with idol joy.Even though I have a good lot of demos and studio releases etc, I have no visual of Us. Has anyone out there got some from Arklow bay hotel or Hot Press 86? contact; john 021 4508535.
