About Stanley Super 800
Stanley Super 800 were a four-piece indie-rock band from Cork formed in 2003 when members of a traditional music group the Ceili Allstars began to record and play using electric instruments. The group is named after the founding member Eoin "Stan" O'Sullivan and a famous solid fuel cooker. Stan was previously in nineties Cork band The Shanks.
They released 2 full length albums and 2 EPs (The Moonlight EP, 2003 and 2 Hours Late EP 2005). Their first, self-titled, album was released in 2004 and featured tracks like "Summer in the City" and "Voices in the Music" that got regularly play on the national airwaves. The bands second album "Louder and Clearer" was released on Irish independent label Sofa Records in 2007. It was made over several sessions from August '05 to December '06 and produced by the Swedish based producer Mark O'Sullivan (DK7, Mighty Quark, Ork). The album received a nomination for the 2007 Choice Music Prize.
Live shows, were the primary focus for where Stanley Super 800. They earned their stripes by gigging everywhere from cow sheds to concert halls and performing eclectic sets where everything from banjos to megaphones and anything from melodic pop to complete electronic meltdowns was fair game.
The band split in 2010 with band members going on to other musical projects. They did temporarily re-convene in 2024 for the Clonakilty International Guitar Festival.
