About Sweeney's Men

Sweeney's Men was a 60s trad and folk group that weaved other musical influences into their music. The founding line-up in May 1966 was Johnny Moynihan, Andy Irvine and "Galway Joe" Dolan. Terry Woods replaced Dolan in '67. Irvine was replaced by Henry McCullough in 1968 after McCullough was deported from America on a drugs charge while on tour with Eire Apparent. McCullough introduced electric guitar bringing the band into the realm of folk rock, perhaps Ireland's first folk rock outfit!
