About Band On An Island
HotPress review of their debut album 'The Soul Sauce':
Despite occasional post-punk guitars, Band On An Island sing songs of small town romance, heartbreak and nostalgia, dripping with sincerity and heart and devoid of the usual pose and bullshit associated with such soundz... and for this they get props from this reviewer. Their debut album’s a tad rough around the edges at times. For every moment the lush strings, harmonies and miscellaneous extra instruments (trumpets, flutes and such) blend perfectly with the more indie rock rhythm section, there are other moments where it’s over cluttered and in need of a remix, rearrangement or a rethink. That said, the heart-on-sleeve, slightly off-key croon of their frontman coupled with their obvious musical ambition could definitely see them developing into something unique and devastating over time if they keep mining the same ore but give it a bit more smelting.
