About Big Generator
Big Generator based in Portumna, Co Galway, formed in 1995 by Barry Conboy & Liam Martin. Their name comes from the 1987 Yes album of the same title. They were formed by Liam Martin and Barry Conboy in October 1992. The other members of the band are Alan "Mack" McEvoy (drums and vocals), Dave Hockedy (vocals and guitar) and Paul Cantillon (vocals/bass).
Over the years, the band have gigged in Ireland, England, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Holland and the USA. They played support for Joe Satriani at the Point in Dublin in December 1995.
Big Generator released their first single "Don't Walk Away" in mid 96 which went straight into the Irish charts at No.14 and remained in the Irish Charts for 7 weeks. They then recorded their second single "Angels Don't Cry" which was sung by Alan "Mack" McEvoy (Drummer).
In September 1998 whilst on a tour of Germany and Holland, they were signed by Green Street Records who are based in Doetinchem, South East Holland. They went out early November 98 for three weeks to record the album and the finishing touches were put to the album in January 1999. The album titled "On the Line" was launched in Holland at the end of March 1999. They released "Wake Up" - the first track to be released from their album - in Holland in early May 1999. The track "Sometimes" was released in Ireland in early July 1999 and its highest position in the Irish charts was number 15 (a second Top 20 hit).
