Dublin band Halves, formed in 2006 by Brian Cash and brothers Tim and Elis Czerniak, is known for its intricate music and elaborate live performances. Broadly influenced, Halves blend a vast range of instruments, acoustic and electronic, creating a mood that would fit film scores, were it not for the lush vocals littered throughout. Video accompanies their show, mixed live as the band play in the dark.
Their debut album, It Goes, It Goes (Forever & Ever), was nominated for the 2010 Choice Music Prize. It was recorded in Montreal with notable guest performers including Amy Millan (Stars/Broken Social Scene), Katie Kim, Phil Boughton (Subplots), Canadian harpist Elaine Kelly-Canning (Carnival Moon), Irish Chamber brass and string players and twenty-seven members of the Kilkenny Ladies' choir.
Their second album, Boa Howl, features a blend of post-rock, modern classical, and experimental rock, influenced by groups like The Flamingos and Clouddead. The band recorded in Sweden to foster creativity and avoid comfort distractions.
Halves has performed at major festivals like Oxegen and Electric Picnic and has toured internationally. Known for their diverse instrumentation and captivating live visuals, they released a live album in 2012.
