Early eighties new wave group
About Pop Mecanics
Pop Mecanics were a short-lived new wave group that released a single entitled 'Soldier Boys' in 1982. It was their only release and it charted at #19 in Irish charts during the Summer of 1982. They recorded a track called ‘Drowning’ that was the intended follow up to Soldier Boys but it was never released as a single.
They opened for Roxy Music on their 3 night Irish tour in August 1982 at the RDS in Dublin and Savoy Theatre in Limerick. They also opened up for Echo and The Bunnymen at Dublin’s McGonagles club in March 1982 and opened for Squeeze at the Hammersmith Palais in London.
They played weekly residencies at the Baggott Inn on Sunday nights supporting Katmandu, and also at The Magnet in Dublin.
The band broke up in early 1983.
