The Dixons were Niall Toner (vocals/guitar), Alan Montgomery (bass/piano/vocals), Ed McGinley (guitar/vocals) and Joey Pleass (drums/vocals). Having served their apprenticeship with various Dublin bands in The (legendary) Underground, The Dixons got together in 1987 and lasted til 1991.
Their first single ‘I Have Fun’ was released on U2's Mother Records in summer 1989. Also in '89 the recorded a session for Dave Fanning's show. Their management did not reach a long term deal with Mother Records so they then put out some records on their own label, Purple Records. A 7" single 'Ingrid Bergman' was released in November '89. A min-album 'Garagefolk - The Sunbed Sessions' was released in May '90 and reached number 25 in the Irish charts. And a 12" EP 'I'd Love To' was released in Feb '91. They started working on an album with a working title 'Exile On Dame Street' but the band split and it was never finished.
