The Fatima Mansions were a rock band formed in 1988 by singer-songwriter Cathal Coughlan after the breakup of Microdisney. Known for their intense, darkly satirical lyrics and a sound that fused abrasive rock, industrial elements, and melodic pop, the band became a cult favourite through the early 1990s. Their albums Against Nature, Viva Dead Ponies, and Lost in the Former West earned critical acclaim, and their confrontational live shows cemented their reputation as one of Ireland’s most fiercely original bands. The group disbanded in the mid-1990s, with Coughlan continuing a prolific solo career.
