About The Strypes

The Strypes from Cavan formed in 2008 when teenagers Evan Walsh, Pete O'Hanlon, and Josh McClorey began playing together, inspired by their parents' music. Initially featuring Walsh on drums, O'Hanlon on vocals, McClorey on guitar, with Jack Hayden and Conor Bates, the lineup changed as Hayden and Bates left. O'Hanlon switched to bass, and the band continued as a trio until they discovered Ross Farrelly, who joined as a vocalist and harmonica player.

The Strypes first gained attention after appearing on the Late Late Toy Show in November 2010. They released an EP, Young, Gifted & Blue, consisting of blues covers. The EP reached No. 1 on the iTunes Blues Chart and got airplay on Irish radio. This attracted record company interest and they signed to Rocket Music Management, owned by Elton John, who had become a fan of the band. A debut single "Blue Collar Jane" and the album "Snapshot" followed in 2013. They continued to gain attention for their youth and retro influences, including Dr. Feelgood and the Yardbirds, and made appeared on popular TV shows in UK and USA including Later... with Jools Holland, Chelsea Lately (guest hosted by Dave Grohl) in 2013 and the Late Show with David Letterman in 2014.

In 2013 The Strypes supported the Arctic Monkeys on their European tour. They would later go on to support other major acts including The Killers, Elbow, Paul Weller and Liam Gallagher. The band's debut album, titled Snapshot, was released on 9 September 2013.

In 2015, The Strypes released their second album, entitled Little Victories which reached number 1 on the Irish Charts and number 17 on the UK charts and embarked on a world tour to promote the album.Their third and final album, Spitting Image, was released in 2017.They went on tour following the release of Spitting Image but had to cancel part of the tour due to drummer Evan Walsh being unfit to perform. Seven months later, the band announced that they were splitting up. Following the break up, Ross Farelly, Pete O'Hanlon and Evan Walsh formed a new band, The Zen Arcade and Josh McClorey released some solo material.
