April South was the stage name of Marian Curry from Teemore, Co. Fermanagh, who moved to Dublin at the age of 16 to pursue a career in the music industry. She was with a showband called The Pennies in the mid-70s before starting her own band April South Band in 1979. She played up the raunchy angle which got her some negative comments and press from both the conservative Holy Catholic Ireland side as well as feminists on the other side.
She released a few singles in the early 80s as April & The Pennies and then as April South. She also had 2 tracks featured on the 1985 compilation Green Metal - New Irish Heavy Metal.
After her 70s and 80s rock 'n roll career, she dropped the April South persona and switched to country 'n Irish, continuing to perform under her own name.
