God Alone - The Beep Test With The Beep Test, God Alone have proved themselves to be one of Ireland's best and most interesting rock bands of recent years. On this album they widen the range of their already varied and eclectic sound with some downright catchy dance inspired pieces while still giving us plenty of the wild and heavy stuff. |

Poor Creature - All Smiles Tonight An eclectic masterpiece of an album from yet another Lankum tangental project. Ruth Clinton's exceptionally pretty voice (contrasted with Cormac McDermody's on some tracks), on top of modern but often wonky intreptations of folk and country songs is an absolute delight. Throw in some cool beats and eclectic instrumentation (e.g. vintage Hohner Organetta, theramin, etc.) and you have some truly unique music. |

Nerves - Iarmhaireacht Nerves are another one of Ireland's best and most interesting rock bands of recent years and just like with last year's Glórach, they have also inspired me to bend the rules of what constitutes an album and squeeze this 27 minute play-length masterpiece into the top albums of 2025 list. Iarmhaireacht is another adventureous record of nervy and brooding sonic textures delivered with a controlled heavy hitting force. |

Thin Lizzy - Acoustic Sessions You may ask what are Thin Lizzy doing on a 2025 top ten albums list, well let me tell you - this is indeed a new album, reworking early era Thin Lizzy tracks in acoustic format with newly recorded acoustic guitar by original guitarist Eric Bell. And it works really well - much of Phil Lynott’s early songwriting was quite folky and this album emphasises that aspect of the work. It really highlights Lynott's voice which comes across even warmer and more intimate than on the original recordings. Bell's acoustic work is tasteful and complements Phil's unique voice perfectly, giving us the oppertunity to hear these old tunes again in a new light. |

Fós - Níl mo chroí in aon rud Níl mo chroí in aon rud is a truly unique album - brooding, heavy, and haunting. Slabs of drone metal guitar reminiscent of Sunn O))), electronic beats combined with mesmerizing sean-nós singing (all as Gaeilge) make for fascinatingly original music. |

Acid Age - Perilous Compulsion Is this 'hyper thrash' or 'war jazz'? Those are two terms that Belfast's Acid Age use to describe their music. I think the former best describes this album; this is really frenetic thrash metal mutated with other influences such as death metal, black metal and hardcore punk. Unrelenting, pummeling but playfully executed, this is some top notch metal coming out of Ireland. |

Alien Dishwasher - Beneath The Fading Bridge Not many will have heard of Alien Dishwasher, the one man recording project of guitarist and muti-instrumentalist Mariusz Nowicki. But that's a shame because this is beautiful music - grand, sweeping and majestic. These instrumental tracks are all so well composed and the guitar work is a joy to listen to, never too show-offy, just well executed with the emphasis on the compisitions. |

Sprints - All That Is Over Sprints are proving themselves to be at the top of the heap of Ireland's post-punk scene. They follow last years debut album with another great record. All That Is Over shows a more complitative, brooding side of Sprints in places, while still giving us a healthy dose of hard hitting punchy post-punk. |

Maria Somerville - Luster Luster is an apt title for this album - this is lush, dreamy shoegaze with beautiful etherial vocals. |

The Murder Capital - Blindness Blindness is a raw, urgent and energetic album from another band that are right up there with Sprints and Fontaines DC at the top of Ireland's crowded post-punk scene. They range from abrasive and noisy to catchy and even anthemic (e.g. Words Lost Meaning). |
