About Lankum

Lankum are Ian Lynch, Daragh Lynch, Radi Peat and Cormac MacDiarmada. They were formed by the Lynch brothers and were originally called 'Lynched' when they debuted with Cold Old Fire (2014). They changed names in 2016. Following on from Cold Old Fire, Lankum offered an original take on traditional folk music on Between The Earth and Sky (2017) and The Livelong Day (2019) and False Lankum (2023).

They play a wide variety of acoustic instruments like guitar, banjo, violin, double bass, harp, piano, organ, vibraphone, bagpipes, concertina and harmonium but used them in a non-traditional manner to generate hypnotic drones that sound like electronic music.

They perform radical re-workings of traditional folk tunes along with their own originals.

Members:

  1. Ian Lynch – vocals, uilleann pipes, concertina, tin whistle, percussion, tape loops
  2. Daragh Lynch – vocals, guitar, percussion, piano
  3. Cormac Mac Diarmada – vocals, fiddle, viola, banjo, double bass, vibraphone, piano, percussion
  4. Radie Peat – vocals, bayan, concertina, harmonium, organ, piano, electric organ, harp, moog pedals, mellotron
