About Catchers
Catchers are an indie pop band from Portstewart formed in 1993, led by singer-songwriter Dale Grundle and vocalist/keyboards player Alice Lemon. The band were signed to Setanta Records and moved to London. They gained attention with their debut single "Cotton Dress" in 1994, produced by Darren Allison, which became Melody Maker's Single Of The Week. Their first album, Mute, recorded with Mike Hedges in France, was critically acclaimed, especially in France, where they became well-known. They toured extensively in Europe, opening for bands like Oasis and Pulp.
In 1995, they signed with Warner Music Discovery in the U.S., leading to a tour across the country. Catchers released their second album, Stooping to Fit, in 1998, which featured lush arrangements but suffered from poor promotion, resulting in disappointing sales. They went on hiatus after a final show in 1999.
Grundle later formed The Sleeping Years in 2006, and in 2019, Catchers reformed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mute, releasing vinyl and live albums. In 2021, they released a new single, "Something's Taking Over Me."
