About Colenso Parade

Colenso Parade was an alt-rock band from Belfast that started in 1984. They named themselves after a street in Belfast and you'd think that was a pretty unique name that would never be confused with any other bands, but bizzarly about 2 decades later there was another Northern Irish band called Colenso Parade, that one from Omagh.

Colenso Parade's original lineup was Oscar Askin on vocals, Linda Clendinning on keyboards, Andrew Middleton (who was later replaced by Neil Lawson) on bass, Jackie Forgie (ex-Ruefrex) on guitar, and Jeff Beattie (later swapped out for Robert Wakeman) on drums.

After putting out a couple of singles on their own Goliath label, they moved to London and signed with Fire Records, run by their manager Dave Bedford. Terry Bickers from The House of Love/Levitation took over guitar duties for Forgie. They dropped an EP called "Hallelujah Chorus and Other Coyote Yelps" and a full album, but then Bickers left for The House of Love and was replaced by John Watt. Wakeman also left, and ex-Big Self drummer Owen Howell took his place.

Their next single, "Fontana Eyes," got a lot of airplay and is considered their best work, but the band broke up in 1986. Oscar was offered a spot replacing Ian McCulloch in Echo & the Bunnymen but turned it down.
