About Dark Room Notes

Dark Room Notes were an electro/synthpop group formed in 2004 by Ronan Gaughan, Ruairi Ferrie, and Ruairi Cavanagh, all from Menlo, beside Galway city. Later members included Arran Murphy form Wicklow and Darragh Shanahan from Dublin. Known for their electro/synthpop sound with a somber tone, they drew comparisons to bands like New Order and Joy Division but were described as cool rather than gloomy.

Their debut album, We Love You Dark Matter, was critically acclaimed and nominated for the Choice Music Prize. The band gained attention with their debut single "Love Like Nicotine" and the EP Dead Start Program. They appeared on RTÉ's Other Voices, topping the viewer's choice poll.

After recording their debut album in London, they toured extensively and signed with BBE Records, which re-released their album worldwide. In early 2010, they toured internationally but faced a setback when drummer Darragh Shanahan left the band in April 2010. They continued as a trio using a drum machine.

They released their second album, Dark Room Notes, in 2012 and performed a soundtrack for the silent film The Lost World in 2011. The band disbanded in March 2013.
