Declan O'Rourke is a singer/songwriter from Kinvara, Co. Galway. His first album is entitled Since Kyabram. His best-known song is probably "Galileo".
At 13, O'Rourke received his first guitar from a priest in Kyabram, Australia where he was living at the time with his family, which inspired the title of his debut album Since Kyabram (2004). The album's release was marked by three sold-out shows in Dublin and entered the Irish charts at Number 5, quickly achieving double-platinum status. Following this success, he toured extensively in Ireland, including a notable show at Dublin's Olympia Theatre.
O'Rourke gained recognition for his performances on TV series Other Voices and had tracks featured on compilations for charity. He has shared stages with notable artists like Snow Patrol and Bob Dylan and received praise from Paul Weller for his song "Galileo (Someone Like You)." Weller invited O'Rourke to perform with him, further elevating his profile.
In October 2007, O'Rourke released his second album, Big Bad Beautiful World, which debuted at Number 4 on the Irish charts. He was nominated for Best Irish Male at the 2008 Meteor Ireland Awards and performed at various high-profile events, including opening for John Prine.
O'Rourke's third album, Mag Pai Zai (2011), topped his previous work by staying in Ireland’s Top 10 for four weeks and was well-received in the US media. He launched a unique project, Howlin’ Lowly Moons, releasing a new track monthly from October 2014 to September 2015.
In 2015, he released Gold Bars in the Sun, his first vinyl album, featuring tracks from the Howlin’ Lowly Moons project. This was followed by In Full Colour (2016), an album with a full orchestra that reached Number 3 in the Irish charts.
In October 2017, O'Rourke released Chronicles of the Great Irish Famine, a song cycle reflecting on the Irish famine, featuring prominent traditional Irish musicians.
O'Rourke's album Arrivals, released in April 2012, was produced by Paul Weller.
