Dermot Kennedy from Rathcoole, County Dublin, is one of Ireland's most successful solo artists. Known for hits like "Outnumbered," "Power Over Me," "Giants," and his feature on Meduza's "Paradise," Kennedy is signed to Interscope Records in the US and Island Records globally. His debut album, Without Fear, was released in October 2019, followed by his second album, Sonder, in November 2022.
Kennedy began his musical journey busking at 17 and gained recognition in his mid-twenties. He also briefly led the band Shadows and Dust. His early exposure included opening for Glen Hansard and performing at major festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza. In 2018, he was named NPR Slingshot's Best New Artist of The Year and appeared on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert.
Kennedy's debut album, Without Fear, compiled years of his work, and he received a Brit Award nomination for international male solo artist in 2020. The album was a global success and reached number one in Ireland and the U.K. He contributed to the charity album The Metallica Blacklist in 2021 and won the RTÉ Choice Music Prize for Irish Song of the Year in 2022 with "Better Days." His second album, Sonder, released in 2022, topped the Irish, Scottish, and U.K. album charts.
