The band went through many lineup changes but the mainstay and main songwriter was guitarist and vocalist Gerry Lane. Gerry Lane had been in a Cork band called Discovery in the late 70s. He and drummer Wayne Sheehy left that band and formed Driveshaft. Some famous rock musicians were associated with the band. Noel Redding produced and played on one of their early recordings. The line-up on recordings made around 1986-87 included Cozy Powell on drums and Neil Murry on bass.
Wayne Sheehy moved on to other bands including 1990, Cactus World News and Hinterland.
