Foy Vance is a musician and singer-songwriter originally from Bangor, Co. Down, currently signed to Ed Sheeran's Gingerbread Man Records. He gained recognition as a support act for Sheeran and has had his music featured on various TV shows. Vance's second album, Joy of Nothing, released in August 2013, received critical acclaim and showcased his songwriting talent.
His early career began with the single "Gabriel and the Vagabond" in 2006, and his debut album, Hope, came out in 2007, earning him some acclaim in the UK. Vance has performed at numerous festivals and even in prisons, and he composed music for the Academy Award-winning short film The Shore.
In 2011, he released The Melrose EP, which included songs featured in popular TV shows and films. His 2013 album, Joy of Nothing, won the inaugural Northern Ireland Music Prize for best album.
Vance's third album, The Wild Swan, was released in May 2016 and marked a significant step in his career, supported by tours with Elton John and Bonnie Raitt. He has co-written songs for other artists, including Miranda Lambert.
In 2019, he released From Muscle Shoals and To Memphis, and in 2021, Signs of Life. In January 2024, Vance won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the song "So Long, Farewell," featured in the TV show Ted Lasso.
