View Gama Bomb Profile on All Music
Gama Bomb were formed in Newry in 2002 by bassist Joe McGuigan and vocalist Philly Byrne. McGuigan and Byrne have been the only constant members throughout their history, although lead guitarist Domo Dixon who joined right after the release of their debut, Survival of the Fastest, in 2005 is a long-time member. They play tight riffing thrash metal and have stated influences such as Nuclear Assault, Kreator, Agent Steel, Sodom, Slayer and Megadeth. Listening to their music, it sounds like Anthrax would also be a key influence. The song "Living Dead in Beverly Hills" off their 2023 Bats album, for example, is highly reminiscent of 80s Anthrax. Gama Bomb don't take themselves too seriously and inject a bit of humour into their music with over the top B-movie-esque themes of monsters, zombies, and horror and the likes and even have a mascot called 'Snowy the Gamabominable Snowman'.
Gama Bomb have released a string of albums since their formation - Survival of the Fastest (2006), Citizen Brain (2008), Tales from the Grave in Space (2009), The Terror Tapes (2013), Untouchable Glory (2015), Speed Between the Lines (2018), Sea Savage (2020) and Bats (2023).
