Ilenkus are a five piece progressive metal / hardcore band from Galway. Ilenkus play alternative metal and have supported the likes of Rolo Tomassi and The Ocean.
They originally formed in 2003, under the name FUBAR. As FUBAR, they released the EP, 'No Control' in 2004 and a second EP in 2006. In 2010 the band changed their name to Ilenkus, in preparation for the release of their debut album in 2011.
The band released their first demo, featuring three home-recorded tracks. One of these tracks later appeared on their debut LP, 'Rule By Thieves,' which came out in September 2011. Completely self-recorded and self-funded, the album quickly caught the attention of Savour Your Scene Records and was well-received by critics, with Terrorizer Magazine praising it as "expansive and well written."
In October 2012, Ilenkus released a new song, 'Ram,' and began touring beyond Ireland. The following year, they started working on their next album. Since then, they have toured extensively across the UK, Ireland, and mainland Europe.
Their second LP, 'The Crossing,' was independently released in September 2014, with mixing and mastering by Chris Common (known for his work with These Arms Are Snakes, Chelsea Wolfe, and Pelican).
The music video for the track 'Over The Fire, Under The Smoke,' featuring vocalist Chris Brennan performing the song acapella on a bustling shopping street, garnered over 30,000 views within its first week. Check it out below - it's pretty awesome!
Ilenkus called it a day in 2022 with some band members moving on to other bands. Josh Guyett joined Host Body based in Bristol, England. Sam Ellis started a solo project called Apogean Tide.
