Jubilee Allstars, formed (initially as "Jubilee") in the mid-90s by brothers Barry, Niall, and Fergus McCormack, along with Lee Casey, released their debut single in 1995 and signed to Lakota Records, producing their acclaimed debut album Sunday Miscellany in 1998. Influenced by bands like Big Star and The Replacements, they sought to capture the essence of Dublin through their music.
Their second album, Lights of the City is widely lauded as one of the great Irish albums. After struggling with their label, they decided to record their second album independently. They used a house in Windy Arbour, near Dundrum, for recording, with Thom Monahan producing. The recording sessions were characterized by a close-knit dynamic among the band, reflecting their shared experiences and the changing landscape of Dublin. The album's artwork echoes the literary heritage of Dublin, resembling a Penguin Classics cover, and features photographs of their favorite local spots.
Their final album "The Struggle Continues" was released in 2005 after their breakup but it was an extremely limited vinyl-only release.
