Mesner were an indie band formed in Portlaoise in the 1990s. The band consisted of Brendan McEvoy (lead vocals, guitar), Mark Alfred (drums, backing vocals), Ger Ryan (bass, keyboards), and Siv (lead guitar). They gained attention with their 1996 single "St Jesus, Uncle God," which reached the top of the charts, followed by the single "Black 'n' Orange" in 1997.
In the mid-2000s, Mesner relocated to Los Angeles, where they played notable venues on the Sunset Strip and recorded the album Illegally Mellow with producer Mark Paladino. This album, released in 2007, included re-recordings of previous hits and featured the single "Where is Your Head At?" released in August 2007. The band returned to Ireland in 2009 but split shortly after that.
Front man Brendan McEvoy also had his own solo project "Macaboy" in the early naughties. After Mesner, he was involved in multiple other projects including Ever 27 (which also included bassist Tanya O'Callaghan), a project called VOIP formed in 2010 and SircleS which included former members of The Blizzards.
