N.C.lawlor would hesitate too self apply the term singer songwriter any more than song and dance man, especially being a resident of Dublin where there exists more singer songwriters than migrant workers.Turn over any rock and there you will find singer songwriters. Mostly he has busked; played in all manner of cheap restaurants, bars, venues etc. He has opened for some of the artists he admires such as Billy Joe Shaver, Jim Lauderdale, James Burton, Seasick Steve, Kieron Kane, Kevin Whelch and Fats Kaplin. One of his biggest influences, Sam Shepard played a set of songs with Lawlor at his Whelans residency. Allso he worked with Shane MacGowan on various launches and a Late Late show TV appearance. Playing lap steel, dobro and pedal steel, he has found himself in much demand as a session player in and around Dublin.
