Indie/electronica duo from Belfast

About Oppenheimer

Oppenheimer was an indie pop band from Belfast formed in 2004 by Shaun Robinson and Rocky O'Reilly, both former members of a group called Torgas Valley Reds. They created Oppenheimer after bonding over a shared love of Moog synthesizers, vocoders, and airhorns. The duo began recording in O'Reilly's spare room, producing three songs which they sent to labels, eventually landing a deal.

Oppenheimer's self-titled debut album was released in 2006 on Bar/None Records (U.S.) and later in other countries. The album received attention for its quirky, electronic indie pop sound and included a cover of "Don't Call Me" by Belfast's Tom McShane. The duo toured with artists like Regina Spektor and They Might Be Giants, gaining exposure and their music featured in shows like How I Met Your Mother, Ugly Betty, and Gossip Girl.

Their second album, Take The Whole Midrange and Boost It, was released in 2008. Despite receiving positive feedback, the band started recording a third album in 2009 but announced their breakup in December that year. They released their final EP, This Racket Takes Its Toll, in 2012, which contained unfinished material from their planned third album.
