Formed in Co. Antrim in summer of 1981 by Gregory/Paul Lerwill, later using the stage name Gregory Grey.
Perfect Crime was formed in the summer of 1981 by Gregory Grey, who was returning to Ireland from his band Rosetta Stone. He was advised by Rodney Orpheus to audition Pete Kerr as their drummer. Kerr, who was previously with Grip, joined the band and brought in Donal Boyle and George Nelson. The band had their debut gig in August 1981 and quickly gained attention, playing regularly at Spuds and supporting Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
In early 1982, they recorded a demo with notable tracks like "Fast Life Neon Ice". Interest from major labels grew, and the band decided to relocate to London, leading to Kerr's departure and replacement by Colin Mairs. They signed management and recording deals in late 1982, toured extensively in 1983 with acts such as The Eurythmics and Talking Heads, and released two singles on MCA Records: "Brave" (1983) and "I Feel Like An Eskimo" (1984). Despite the latter receiving a scathing review, Grey found it humorous.
The band disbanded in 1985, with Grey continuing as a solo artist and Boyle and Nelson forming Uncertain Trumpet. Tragically, Nelson died in a road accident in 1989, and Gregory Grey passed away on April 25, 2019.
