About Róisín Murphy

Róisín Murphy is an Irish singer, songwriter, and record producer, best known for her work in the 1990s as part of the pop duo Moloko. After Moloko's breakup, Murphy launched a successful solo career, starting with her debut album Ruby Blue (2005), produced with Matthew Herbert. The album received critical acclaim but had limited commercial success. Her second solo album, Overpowered (2007), was more commercially viable and featured successful singles like "Overpowered" and "Let Me Know."

Murphy went on hiatus after 2008, though she continued collaborating with other artists. In 2015, she returned with Hairless Toys, which earned a Mercury Prize nomination, followed by Take Her Up to Monto (2016). Her 2020 album Róisín Machine received widespread critical praise, and her 2023 album Hit Parade was similarly lauded. Throughout her career, Murphy's sound has evolved, blending electronic, house, jazz, and avant-garde influences.

Murphy is known for her eclectic, avant-garde fashion style and distinctive contralto voice, which ranges from smoky and jazzy to impassively chilly. Her influences include Siouxsie Sioux, Grace Jones, and Björk, and she has been hailed as a leader in experimental pop, blending high art with accessible music. Her performances are celebrated for their theatricality and fashion-forward aesthetic.

In addition to her music, Murphy has acted, appearing in Netflix's The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself (2022).
