About The Dolldrums
The Dolldrums, hailing from Navan, Co. Meath, are a four-piece rock outfit with a keen focus on melody and lyrics. The group was formed when the band's frontmen and songwriting partnership returned from a hedonistic summer of excess on a Grecian Isle. The two in question are Paul 'Clarkie' Clarke and Cormac 'Beef' O' Keeffe. The pair returned weary yet their thirst for music remained unquenchable and they decided to form an original band which would serve as an outlet for their songwriting needs. They recruited gifted drummer Barry 'Baz' Fitzgerald, (nephew of legendary guitarist Jimi Smith), whom Beef had played with in several bands prior to his departure to Greece. More recently bassist Patrick 'Paddy' Smith has joined The Dolldrums, adding a new dimension to the sound.Their influences include The Small Faces, The Smiths, The Beatles, The Stone Roses, Kings of Leon, The La's, The Libertines and naturally Bob Dylan. The calibre of venues they have played such as The Spirit Store, Temple Bar Music Centre, The Sugar Club and Eamonn Dorans, and gigs supporting high profile acts such as the Blizzards, the Revs and Paddy Casey under their belt, hold testament to the bands drive and capability. With a large following locally and increasingly national, The Dolldrums are an ambitious bunch with a unique live sound.
The band are also heavily involved in the promotion of new Irish music with Clarkie running 'The Backroom Session', formally known as 'The Vigilante sessions' which plays host to many new emerging acts.
