The Wood Burning Savages are a four‑piece rock/punk band from Derry City. They formed around 2011 by frontman Paul Connolly (vocals/guitar), drummer Aaron McClelland, bassist Dan Acheson, and guitarist Shea Tohill.
Their sound is high‑energy, riff‑driven rock with a sharp political and working‑class edge—drawing comparisons to acts like Manic Street Preachers, The Clash and Queens of the Stone Age.
Their debut album, Stability (2018), was self‑released and won the prestigious Northern Ireland Music Prize for Album of the Year—making them the first rock act to do so. They also took home the prize for Best Live Band in the same year.
Their follow‑up album Hand To Mouth (2025) was described as darker and heavier, reflecting both personal and societal pressures. With a fierce live reputation, a commanding frontman, and a commitment to addressing social issues through their music, The Wood Burning Savages have become one of Northern Ireland’s standout rock bands of recent years.
