Percolator is an experimental rock band whose blend of hypnotic kraut techno and wall of shoegaze guitar drones has best been compared to Swans with a leaning towards NEU!’s krautrock driven rhythms. Comparisons have been made to My Bloody Valentine, and Sonic Youth.
Percolator was formed in 2009 by ex-members of Dae Kim, Ian Chestnutt and Eleanor Myler who brought in John 'Spud' Murphy who was previously in Ilya K. Their first release was a split 7" with Mia Sparrow featuring the track Yellow Fire in 2011. Also in 2011 they began recording their debut album. They released 3 tracks from the planned album in 2013 as Little Demon EP. Another track, Law & Order, was released as a single in 2016 and the album, Sestra, was finally released in April 2017. A 3 track EP, Freshin, was released in 2019.
In addition to being a member of Percolator, Spud Murphy is also a producer, mix & record engineer, front of house engineer & multi-instrumentalist and also play bass for Katie Kim. He is producer & front of house engineer for Lankum. Eleanor Myler and Spud Murphy teamed up with Radie Peat of Lankum and Katie Kim on the doom folk project ØXN, releasing a highly acclaimed album in 2023.
