Putrefaction are a crust/death metal band formed in Dublin in 2005. Emerging from the city’s underground punk and metal scene, the group was founded by guitarist/vocalist Eric alongside brothers Donal and Eoin Fullam.
The band’s early material, including the Destroyers demo (2007), established a raw, aggressive sound rooted in D-beat crust punk and extreme metal, blending influences from bands such as Hellshock and Repulsion while maintaining a strong emphasis on atmosphere and mood.
Putrefaction’s music has been characterised as a fusion of crust, hardcore, and death metal, noted for its heavy, abrasive production, distorted bass tones, and guttural vocals. Their songwriting often combines mid-paced, brooding passages with faster, more violent sections, creating what has been described as a bleak, apocalyptic sonic aesthetic.
Although relatively obscure internationally, the band has received recognition within underground circles, particularly for releases such as their 2012 album and the Scavenger EP (2015), the latter praised for its varied, riff-driven compositions and politically charged lyrics addressing themes such as class struggle and social decay.
